As criteria
for social security disability benefits is relatively strict, receiving them
are also rather difficult. From investigating your documents to making the
decision of whether an applicant is disabled or not, the entire evaluation
process is very carefully designed and guided by well formulated laws.
Therefore an applicant should have a better knowledge on the overall process so
that he/she can apply properly with a comprehensive preparation and proper
documentation. The more systematic and knowledgeable your application approach
is, the greater your chance to receive the social security disability benefits.
So, now what
can you do, so that your disability benefit claim is accepted and not denied?
In order to become a successful applicant, what are your primary duties and
responsibilities?
First of all- before filing
for disability benefits, make a checklist of all the necessary documents
required. The required documents are of two types-
1)
Medical documents
2)
Non-medical documents
Medical
documents include your medical records which is the most important part to
prove your disability claim. So extra care should be taken while arranging and
collecting these documents of yours. Some of the main documents of this type
include-
·
Names,
addresses and contact numbers of all the doctors, hospitals/ clinics that you
went to.
·
Your previous
appointment schedules with doctors, and your visit records to the hospitals/
clinics etc.
·
Names and
dosages of all the medicines and pills you are taking.
·
All types of your diagnosis results etc.
Once you are
done with all your medical reports, it is now time to arrange the non-medical
documents. Some of the main non-medical documents include-
·
Your social security number
·
Proof of your age
·
Summary of your work etc.
If your family
members are also eligible for receiving benefits, you may submit some additional
documents such as-
·
Proof of your marriage
·
Social security numbers of your family members
·
Proof of their ages etc.

Second of all- stay away
from all types of illegal drugs, alcohol, tobacco etc. If anyone is addicted to
illegal drugs or alcohol, it is very difficult to qualify for the disability
benefits. According to the federal law, addiction to illicit drugs and alcohol
is not considered as disability. However, if anyone has a previous record of
consuming illegal drugs and addiction to it, this doesn't necessarily make an
applicant non-eligible for the social security disability benefits.
Third of all- be a law
abiding citizen if you want to qualify for social security disability benefits.
Criminal offense is indeed a strong reason to disqualify you from your claim.
If you have a criminal record or a history of being end up in jail, you have
destroyed almost all your possibility to receive the disability benefits.
Judges who decide whether you are to be given the social security disability
benefits or not- are very strict regarding this particular issue and may right
away cancel your application if they find any record of breaking the law.
The points
mentioned above deserve special attention if you really want to make your
disability claim strong. Therefore, all of you- preparing to apply for
disability benefits, should be prepared well regarding these issues before you
submit your application along with the necessary documents.
Good luck to
you all!
